The Bureau of District Mining
Operations regulates all surface and
underground mining and blasting
activities in Pennsylvania. Six
district mining offices oversee
licensing, bonding, permitting and
inspecting all surface and underground
anthracite and bituminous coal mines,
coal preparation plants, coal refuse
disposal sites and industrial minerals
quarries. District mining staff assist
industry to comply with state and
federal safety and environmental
regulations and pollution
prevention.
