  What is Environmental Justice (EJ)?

EJ is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state agency largely responsible for administering Pennsylvania's environmental laws and regulations to protect our air, water, and land resources.

The Office of Environmental Advocate within the DEP (OEA) was established as a point of contact for Pennsylvania's residents to ensure that all individuals’ environmental issues and concerns are addressed quickly and equally. Our primary goal is to increase communities' environmental awareness and involvement.

The Environmental Justice Advisory Board (EJAB) , was created under the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to provide recommendations to the Secretary regarding the adoption, amendment, or repeal of rules, regulations, standards, criteria, policies, guidance and procedures in regards to environmental justice concerns.
